A bed made from recycled scaffolding was named as a 'green hero' by TV presenter Kevin McCloud at the Grand Designs Live Show in Birmingham, the Lynn News reports.

The 'William' bed, which was made by the family-owned Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Company, was on exhibition alongside more than 500 other products at the show, but it was this modern, upcycled bed that caught the attention of McCloud.

The family made the whole bed by hand using restored scaffolding and railings, and finished off their creation by stamping their daisy logo into the bedstead. The company has also made the William bed in a range of colour versions, but the one on show was in the original raw metal with a lacquered finish.

Amanda Oldfield, who worked on the bed, said of the experience: "When we met Kevin, he was charming and he was very interested in what we had done and by the fact that we are a small family company.

"It was amazing to receive such a positive reaction to the beds. Myself, Stephen and the boys, set the company up nine years ago, and to hear such positive comments about our products, gives you a great boost of confidence."
